As a local I believe the attitude of the people has changed for the good. I know several friends who go out procuring items for those elderly folks who are unable to. I'm seeing more neighbours spending time with each other. Families playing board games and having sing song sessions. People purchasing a few extra biscuits or juice packets to give that homeless person they see sitting nearby. People going out of their way to leave water out for the street animals etc. Aside from the first few days where the lockdown situation threw everyone into panic mode, I think most people are now handling this in a very positive way.

I myself feed around 70 street dogs in and around my locality and the only negative effect this lockdown threw my way personally was my inability to get enough food for all the dogs. With many of the stores closed, especially the major meat chain shops where these dogs were getting that extra food (and especially water), I needed to step out every morning in search of toast/ biscuits/ milk whatever I could get my hands on. Luckily with things easing up, everything has now fallen into place. As for my family, I guess we are lucky to be situated in the heart of the city where access to groceries, essential services are all nearby and we did not have to face any hardships that many families living in the interior sections of Goa were facing.

Having said all, I believe the unsung heroes are those that are stepping out of their homes every day in order to do their job to make things run smoothly for the general public. This would include the garbage collectors, the nurses, the doctors, those working in grocery stores. However, I dislike saying this, but I would be lying if I said it any different - there is no ray of hope that I believe in. I’m afraid I only see the situation getting worse in India.

I would associate the colour grey to uncertainty of what tomorrow will bring - Sonia Fernandes (Manager-Carpe Diem and volunteer feeding stray animals)
